Job Search
Here are some of the numbers.
In January and February I cold applied to 15 job postings on LinkedIn. I responded to about a dozen cold recruiter pings. I’ve had, I think, three second round, and now one final round (which turned into a reject). I have an additional final round scheduled.
In March, I have cold applied to 28 LinkedIn postings. I got a positive response from one, but it turned into a reject (from me, total compensation was too low). I responded to one cold recruiter ping, and have that scheduled.
I could crunch some numbers and make a /r/DataIsBeautiful type post, but I won’t. The easy conclusion here is that searching for a job is hard. There is a significant amount of failure involved. In fact, it is like 95% failure.
I wonder if I it could be different. I’m not sure exactly what different (and better) would look like, but could I start by making it so it’s not 95% failure? If I had the time and energy, that sounds like it could become a business idea.
